Science and Biology 2012

SCIENCE AND BIOLOGY

We have a small vegetable garden, have made and kept a worm viewer, keep chickens, have recently raised some chicks and a batch of silkworms.
We attended monthly workshops with CSIRO in 2011, and shall continue to do so in 2012.   We  shall be following the CSIRO Crest programme and supplement this with lessons from the NASA programme and resources from the library.

Astronomy (Earth and Beyond)
We have been to a presentation with the SAS (Southern Astronomical Society) and asked some interesting questions about space junk.

Biology (Life and Living)
Life cycles of plant, worm, insect, fish, amphibian,  reptile, mammal.

Botany (Life and Living)
We keep a botany scrapbook, and are exploring classification of plants - leaves, roots and flowers.  We are collecting data about the trees in our garden, and parks that we attend regularly.

Anatomy (Life and Living)
We explore the human anatomy by system as the interest arises.  We shall have had a closer look at the skeletal system, skin, eyes and teeth.

Oceanography
We have started to explore the ocean/aquatic biome.  Classifying shells, fish, whales.

Geology
explore the rock cycle basically.
